Log Home Construction - FAQs
Do I have to be concerned with the typical problems of full log construction?
No. Our wall system is conventionally framed construction. Hybrid, energy-log construction eliminates settling, warping, twisting, and air leak issues experienced in full log construction while maintaining the look and feel you are striving for.
How much will this cost?
Cost is best addressed on an individual basis. Square footage, complexity, and selected amenities all drive the cost. Please contact one of our sales representatives for a more detailed breakdown.
Do you air dry or kiln dry your logs?
All log components from Tomahawk Log Homes are kiln dried. Our goal is to have the moisture content between 18-20%, with the understanding job location might drive the recommended content, as the logs will adapt to it's environment.
What type of wood is your log siding?
We use white and red pine from northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan. All logs are dip-treated with an insecticide and fungicide which meets the EPA's requirements.
Are your homes energy efficient?
Yes! We are typically 15-20% more efficient than conventional construction qualifying most of our projects as Energy Star efficient. The hybrid, energy-log construction system exceeds all full log homes in reduced heating and cooling costs along with eliminating air infiltration.
How often will I have to refinish/stain?
Site conditions and exposure have a lot to do with stain/maintenance. Typically the first wet on wet application lasts 3-7 years with additional years expected if a maintenance schedule is followed.
