Why Choose Laminated Log Construction?

Glue-laminated logs, often called engineered timber, are produced using several pieces of dried (average 10% moisture content) dimensional lumber.  These pieces are bonded together and then milled into the traditional log profile that offers the look and quality of full logs.

However, laminated logs offer several distinct advantages over standard full logs to today's builder.

ADVANTAGE 1: Laminated logs are less prone to warping and twisting due to uneven drying (which can lead to air leaks and heat loss) than standard full logs.  Laminated logs are also far less likely to split as they age.

ADVANTAGE 2: Strips of insulation and vapor barriers can be inserted between the individual logs, dramatically improving the structure's thermal efficiency.

ADVANTAGE 3: Wood species can be mixed, with a less expensive species used for the inside pieces and premius wood grades used for interior and exterior walls.  This often saves the builder money, while at the same time allowing him to create a truly custom look by using, for example, pinewood exterior walls and redwood interior walls.

Choosing the best log or log combination with which to build is of paramount importance.  We at Middleton Timber Inc. offer one of the best logs on the market for sealing out efficiency-robbing outside elements.  With two foam gaskets and a specially formulated adhesive, our logs are guaranteed to fit snugly and keep your structure dry, draft-free and looking new for years!

For a more traditional log home look, you may wish to choose the "Saddle-Notch" corner.  This style provides for a more rounded look on interiors and exteriors.

If you prefer a more modern look, you may want to choose the "Butt and Pass" corner.  This style delivers a rounded exterior wall, with a flat interior wall.

Both corner options are equally sound and durable...
the choice is simply a matter of suiting your own style!
